CouplesIf you would like to be seen without a long wait or complex assessment procedures contact me. I am a fully qualified, registered full time professional with training and experience in couple psychotherapy.
I see couples including LGBT and of all ages. I work with people who are conflicting, or who are separating or divorcing but wish to improve future communications. Sometimes I work with couples who just want to improve an already functional relationship.

Couple therapy has a coaching element, for example recommending exercises and methods for couples to use at home. For more information on couple work see the home page menu on the left.
Affordable rates: £60. If you are financially challenged I am unable to give concessions but am very happy to provide therapy sessions fortnightly.

Before calling, it's important to decide whether you really are available to commit to a consistent period of therapy. (See practice rules below).
My main approach is a blend of counselling styles, eg Gestalt, NLP, CBT, Solution Focused, Transactional Analysis, Transpersonal and Existential. I sometimes use a holistic, body oriented approach to help people understand their issues. My therapy is not just a 'talking cure' I have excellent techniques for deepening process, or, getting to the root of things. This may take a little longer, but superficial counselling often only works in the short term.
Preparing to embark on therapyBefore you consider starting therapy here are a few things to think about.
Your first session will be both a mutual assessment session, but also will have value as a therapy session.
Therapy, if it is going to work, is a big commitment. In the first session, you can decide whether you want to work with me, and I will assess whether I can work with you. From then on, I expect you to either cancel with notice, or show up to scheduled sessions.
I need to prepare a good space to work in, and prepare myself for the session so it is very important to show up.
Missed appointments will be charged for so please do not make an appointment unless you are sure you can turn up. I am always open to rescheduling.

I do not work with substance misusers, serious eating disorders, or bi polar disorder unless appropriate medical treatment is also in place.

TherapyTherapy usually lasts between 6 weeks and six months depending on the circumstances. Some people find a year or more is necessary.
Therapy progresses in four ways:
1 Identify, explore
2 Achieve insight
3 Support to accept, cope
4 Support to plan lasting, realistic healing

There are some issues which do not always respond well to individual private therapy, for various reasons if I feel that this is the case I will tell you and recommend other sources of support.
*If you have an eating disorder or addiction which is seriously affecting your health you need medical attention before counselling can take place. But I am happy to work with people who are in recovery.
**I am happy to work with sexual issues as part of individual or couple therapy but I am not prepared to discuss sexual issues on the phone.
I also do not work with people who have had a psychiatric diagnosis of serious disorders. I may refer someone I think needs a diagnosis after the assessment session, this is for the benefit of the client.
